The couple married 12 years after they first met on the dance floor of Washington, DC nightclub Pearl. Makonnen told the New York Times that he hit on his future bride and her friend using a cheesy pick-up line. Makonnen's great grandfather, Emperor Haile Selassie I, ruled the African nation from 1930 until 1974, when he was overthrown. Makonnen was born in Italy, where his family was living in exile, and grew up in Switzerland. When the couple met, Makonnen was studying at American University. Tina Turner To Marry Long Time Love Erwin Bach

Music mega star Tina Turner, 73, is set to marry long-time partner Erwin Bach this year, according to a report in Swiss tabloid newspaper Blick today. The ceremony will take place directly at the lake of Zürich. Food is provided by Chefs Rico Zandonella and Horst Petermann of Tina’s favorite restaurant ‘Rico’s Kunststuben’. The dress-code: white. Tina Turner and Erwin Bach have been a couple for almost 27 years. They met in Germany while Tina was working there in 1986. Erwin Bach was at that time a record executive of Tina’s label EMI. In previous interviews, Tina has always said that she would never marry again, even though Erwin apparently proposed to her.
